Port Antonio Resort Area
The quiet parish reminds travellers of a Jamaica ‘back in the day’. Low rise, independent hotels with a real ‘local feel’ to them. In Portland, you get to know the real Jamaica and get the best vistas of the whole island. With the backdrop of the Blue Mountains to the south and to the north the incredible Caribbean sea with its marina and harbour it doesn’t get much more stunning. Steep roads leading to hillside houses, bars & restaurants with views to take your breath away.
Numerous waterfalls in this parish to keep the water theme going on the island. You can hike up them, swim to them, take a boat to them or just take pictures and stay dry if you so wish. Good eating is another constant on the island and Portland is the birthplace of Jerk meats, once used to preserve meats and now done solely for the taste. Unless you don’t eat meat, I would say that trying jerk pork or chicken is a must do when you come to Jamaica.
